| | COMUNICADO URGENTE CONDENA AL USO DEL MAIZ TRASGENICO EN GUATEMALA La Defensoría Maya, organización que hace muchos años viene procurando el mejoramiento de la situación de los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, principalmente del Pueblo Maya, a la comunidad nacional e internacional manifiesta: Su profunda preocupación e indignación ante el anuncio de repartición de maíz trasgénico en Guatemala como parte del Programa Mundial de Alimentos, y que se viene dando en diversas comunidades del Pueblo Maya, principalmente. Su rechazo absoluto a este tipo de decisiones de países poderosos que imponen por la fuerza no sólo alimentos trasgénicos, sino también todo tipo de flaguicidas y otros, que perjudican la salud de cualquier ser humano en el país. El uso de cualquier producto trasgénico produce enfermedades irreversibles en el Ser Humano. Utilizado en Guatemala solamente agravará la salud de la población quien no tiene recursos para curarse de este tipo de males. Exige a las autoridades de turno a que investiguen de manera urgente la situación de manipulación del hambre y miseria del pueblo por parte de instituciones como el PMA, que se aprovechan de la situación de desconcoimiento que prevalece en la mayoría de nuestras comunidades. Exige a las autoridades y gobiernos de la ONU para que cesen de inmediato la utilización de alimentos trasgénicos como parte de las ayudas humintarias a los países que los países ricos han empobrecido durante siglos. Solicita al gobierno de la República para que implemente medidas urgentes para proteger el MAIZ sagrado de los mayas, insustituible en la dieta alimentacia nacional. También a que implemente programas para el desarrollo productivo de maíz nacional y que se prosiga con el programa de repartición de alimentos dándole prioridad a los productos nacionales producidos por los propios Pueblos Indígenas de Guatemala. Anima a todas las organizaciones sociales y comunidades a que se mantengan alertas por este tipo de engaños que se realiza contra la población. No se puede utilizar el hambre de un Pueblo para destruir y trastornar el proceso histórico productivo del MAIZ y de la salud de los habitantes en Guatemala.
